Sarah Wolski –
What an interesting and engaging read! Burning Justice by Lisa Phillips is the final novel in Chasing Fire: Alaska, a six book series created by Susan May Warren and Lisa Phillips.
The book follows Marie Sanchez, former CIA operative, and Kane Foster, former Delta Force soldier, as they work with a “hotshot” team to fight fires in the Alaskan wilderness. The two, whose lives collided in Syria after missions gone awry a few years previously, are also doing everything in their power to stop a dangerous militia group from deploying a dangerous biological weapon on American soil with the help of their friends.
Some of the major themes of this novel include: waiting on the Lord’s timing (“Yes, but not yet…”), “But God…” (especially in regards to salvation and justice), and doing the hard thing because it is the right thing to do.
While I rarely read novels in series out of order, Burning Justice is actually the first Chasing Fire: Alaska book I have read—and I loved it! In fact, I have added Chasing Fire: Montana and the rest of the novels in this series to my “To Read” list.
While this novel could be read as a stand-alone, I would definitely recommend reading the series’ books in order, as there was so much backstory and characterization that I missed out on.
